IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Nomination is coming up for the Ute Tribal Council. Therefore, it’s very important to update your information with the Vital Statistics Department, Treasury and Accounting Departments.

You must update your Address at least once a year, and notify the departments of any changes. If you should have any questions or concerns, contact your Vital Statistics Department @ 722-4991.

NOTICE of Ute Tribe Election:

Notice of 2019 Ute Tribe Elections: Pursuant to Ordinance 13-006 as amended, notice is hereby given that the Ute Indian Tribe of Uintah and Ouray Reservation will hold an election to fill the expiring terms of the following members of the Ute Tribal Business Committee:

Shaun Chapoose, Uncompahgre Band,

Ronal J. Wopsock, Uintah Band and

Edred Secakuku, Whiteriver Band.

NOMINATIONS:           Each eligible voter may write in the name of one (1) eligible nominee. Whom the voters would like to represent them, of his or her band on the Business Committee, for the period of 2/2019 – 2022.

Nomination will be on March 11, 2019, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Closed date: March 20, 2019.

Held in the Tribal Auditorium.

PRIMARY ELECTION:   The Primary Election will be held April 3, 2019 from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm.

The purpose of selecting (2) candidates from the list of eligible nominees from the nomination period representing: Uncompahgre, Uintah and Whiteriver bands.

GENERAL ELECTIONS: The General Elections will be April 17, 2019 from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. The three (3) candidates receiving the highest number of votes from each band in the General Election shall represent the Uncompahgre, Uintah and Whiteriver bands on the Ute Tribe Business Committee for the term of 2019 – 2022.

ELIGIBLE NOMINEE:    Any member of the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation, twenty-one (21) years of age, who has maintained a residence within the boundaries of the Uintah & Ouray Reservation for a period of one (1) year preceding the election n, shall be entitled to vote and hold office.

POLLING PLACES AND TIME:   The polls will be open from 8:30 am to 6:00pm. At the following places, Fort Duchesne Community Building, Myton Community Building, Whiterocks Community Building and Randlett Community Building. For the Primary Elections April 3rd, and the General Elections April 17th.

ABSENTEE VOTERS:                 An eligible voter who qualifies to vote by absentee (pursuant to Ordinance 13-006 as amended) must request an absentee ballot for the Primary Election starting March 27th at 8:30 am. The Election Commission must receive this ballot no later than 4:30 pm, on April 2nd.

The Election Commission will start accepting absentee ballots for the General Election on April 10th at 8:30 am through April 16th, at the Ute Indian Tribal Auditorium. The Election Commission must receive this ballot no later than 4:30 pm on April 16, 2019, at the Ute Indian Tribal Auditorium.

NOTICE OF ELECTION RESULTS:          The Election Commission shall post the results of the Primary Election on April 4th and results of the General Election on April 19th, at a conspicuous location in the communities designated as polling places. The Election Commission shall deliver the results of the General Election to the Tribal Business Committee on May 19th, 2019.

ATTENTION:

KUED DOCUMENTARY ON BATTLE OVER BEARS EARS:

KUED documentary “Battle Over Bears Ears” at the Uintah County Library – Main Conference Room.

Tuesday, March 12th beginning at 7:00 pm. The executive producer of the film, Nancy Green, will be at the screening to talk about the making of the film and answer any questions.

The documentary is a very objective look at the events leading up to the creation of the Bears Ears National Monument by President Obama and the events leading up the subsequent modification by President Trump. The screening is open to the public and free.

COMMUNITY UPDATE:

Tava Ma Weesi Community is having a community meeting today at 5 pm at Ute Crossing. The Enrollment Steering Committee is going to be presenting. This meeting is for all tribal members. NEWS UPDATE FROM THE UTE TRIBE SENIORS PROGRAM:

Wednesday, March 13th – Come celebrated St. Patrick’s day, lunch and activities, looking for a Leprechaun.

Sunday, March 31st – End of Title VI Grants for 2018-19.

The Ute Tribe Senior Program is for those fifty-five years old (55) and older, enrolled with the Ute Indian Tribe.

Ute Senior/Caregivers Exercise program: Monday’s & Wednesday’s from 1:15 – 2:00 pm. Points are being counted for participations, prizes/awards will be presented in May.

Senior Crafts/Respite program: have been doing all sorts of crafts, wreath making, fleece blankets, and many other seasonal decorations are to come.

I have directed and required that all senior staff help do crafts, or come up with ideas, all crafts are done on site.

Ute Tribe Senior Title VI, Grants-Meals & Transportation for 2018-19:

The Ute Senior Center meal service is a regular nutritional meal program this is to benefit tribal members ages 55 years and over whom live within the service area. Meal service is from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Mondays thru Thursday. Except holidays or tribal events.

Caregiver Requirements:

Ute Tribe Senior Title VI, Ute Caregiver program for 2018-19:

The Ute Senior program is here to give support. We will be offering classes or events in coordination with other tribal programs. Respite care for tribal seniors during these times at the Ute Senior Center from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Mondays – Thursdays plus lunch is provided at the center from 11:30 – 12:30 pm.

Caregivers requirements:

Must be non-working individual over 18 years of age and main caretaker to tribal senior, or a non-working enrolled tribal senior whom has legal custody of grandchild.

Fill out all required information

Must participant in activities.

Ute Seniors Winter Heating program is currently out of funds until October 2019.

Meal Delivery: As required by Federal Grant guidelines, we cannot leave food outside your home, and BC requires check-in on Seniors.

Again delivery drivers are having problems with dogs.

REMINDER: Remember to leave water running at night to prevent pipes from freezing call UIT Maintenance. The UIT Building Rehab program is helping with driveways for tribal seniors.

UPDATE FROM FISH & WILDLIFE DEPARTMENT:

Application for the Spring Turkey, and Spring/Summer Exterior Boundary Black Bear Seasons are available at the Ute Tribe Fish and Wildlife Office. Application period: February 25th to March 14, 2019.

Drawing will be held Wednesday, March 20th. Feel free to stop by and pick one up or fill one out and submit it. The deadline for applications to be submitted is Thursday, March 14th. These hunts are for Tribal Members and Mixed Bloods only.

UPDATE FROM PAINTED HORSE PROGRAM:

Step Aerobics – Every Monday’s from 5:15 pm, at the Fort Duchesne Community Building.

Body Resistance Training – Every Tuesday’s at 5:15 pm, at the Fort Duchesne Community Building.

Zumba – Every Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s at the Head Start Administration Building.

 Monday’s/Thursday’s at 5:00 pm, with Mariah Cuch, and Wednesday’s at 5:15 pm, with TJ Caldwell.

Elder’s Workout – Monday’s/Wednesday’s at 1:15 pm, at the Senior building.

Cosmic Bowling – Every Sunday’s at noon (12:00) until 2:00 pm. starting March 3rd.

Swimming – March 7th, from 6-8:00 pm, at the Vernal Recreation Center.

Ski/Snowboarding - Sunday, March 10th, at Sunlight Mountain Resort. Bus will be leaving from Ute Plaza at 6:00 am.

Food Demonstration – March 13th and 27th, at the Ute Plaza starting at 12:00 – 1:00 pm.

UP-DATE FROM UTE TRIBE HEAD START PROGRAM:

Parent Workshop on Proper Car Seat Installation and Usage, will be held Tuesday, March 12th, at 5:30 pm. At the Head Start Administration Building. Community is welcome to come and participate, gather information. For more information call 722-4506 ext. 4866.

RECREATION UPDATES:

Ute Indian Tribe Recreation Department is now accepting application for the Ute Tribe girls Fast-Pitch League Team. Girls: 7-8 yrs. old, 9-10 yrs. old, 11-14 yrs. old. Application deadline is Wednesday, March 13th (No exceptions) Applications are available at the UIT Recreation Office. Any questions contact: Austin McCook @ 722-2249.

ANNOUCEMENT FROM NAH-NA-MAH CLUB:

Nah-na-mah Club will be hosting a Bingo night. Friday, March 15th, at Uintah River High School, from 4:30 – 7:00 pm. UNION HIGH SCHOOL NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE WEEK:

Monday, Kick-off assembly at 8:00 am. All royalty and dance welcomed.

Tuesday, Hunting display lunch at 1:00 pm. In the evening at 5:00 pm. will be the Union High Native American Tea in the teacher training room. Please RSVP.

Wednesday, Taco Sale during lunch and a Round Dance demo. Visitors are welcome to come eat at 12:00 (noon).

Thursday, during lunch there will be Latino/Islander activity. Union High School Native American Pageant in the auditorium.

Update from Centennial Elementary School:

Plans are been make for Centennial Elementary Native American Pageant. There are a couple important dates.

First, there looking for fry bread markers for March 22nd. If you are interested please contact: Eveningstar Curry.

Second Centennial Elementary school pageant is schedule for March 29th time is TBA.

Applications are available in the front office with the Deadline: March 15th by 3:00 pm. Late application will not be accepted.

Eagle View Elementary Native American Pageant:

Application is ready for this year’s Eagle View Elementary Miss/Little Miss Native American Pageant. Applications are available: Monday, March 4th at the front office.

Students in Kindergarten or 1st grade this school year can run for Little Miss Eagle View.

Students, in 2nd, 3rd, 4th grade this school year can run for Jr. Miss Eagle View.

Students, in 5th, 6th, or 7th grade this school year can run for Miss Eagle View.

Also, if you have any young boys who are interested in running for the Eagle View Brave/Warrior competition, application will be available at the front office.

Categories are as follows:

Students in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd grades, can run for Eagle View Warrior.

Students in 4th, 5th, or 7th grade can run for Eagle View Brave.

All applications will be due Thursday, March 28th, by the end of the work day (4:00 pm)
